120 Synths Connected and Ready to Record

Studio 1 is designed for immediate creativity. An artist can literally turn up and start writing and recording with virtually zero setup time. All the synthesizers (~120) and outboard effects (~50) are turned on, connected and ready to play in custom ergonomic stands. This makes writing and recording alone or in groups a breeze, as artists and producers can play and record any of the keyboards together through any (or all) of the outboard effects and 30 Genelec speakers and subs with near zero latency. The opportunity for exploration is extraordinary.

This can of course be supplemented with vocals and any number of live instruments (Studio 1 has 62 pre-amps and 20 DIs) or expanded from our additional floating pool of synths (~25) and FX (~35) or from gear in Studio 2 or the Solo Room.

We have conveniently grouped the equipment in Studio 1 into 9 “Synth Pods”, each of which has its own patchbay array, outboard effects, pre-amps, tuner, DIs, A/D and D/A, headphones, local monitors and MIDI. There is no need to move any of the keyboards (although you can if you want). Just plug in and start playing with everything at the right height, recording through a pristine audio path and listening through headphones and Genelec monitors. These Synth Pods can operate independently or can route audio and MIDI to and from a central control desk.

The central control desk houses a Mac Studio Ultra with a suite of DAW options and software plug-ins, 128 channels of I/O and MIDI control of the entire complex, with audio routed to the huge Genelec 9.1.6 Dolby Atmos system. It’s a beautiful space to produce and mix in (complete with grand piano, couch, lounge chairs and drinks trolley).

Studio 1 is also incredibly versatile. At 195 square metres, and with 4.5 metre ceilings at the apex, it is also a large live room which can house an ensemble or large band, with everthing cabled into Studio 2 for control room duties. And in fact the layout allows for 40 or more keyboard players to rehearse and record simultaneously as a “Synth Orchestra”.

Studio 1 has a custom ChamSys DMX performance lighting system with moving spots and washes and over 100 individually controllable LED lights, and has been wired with 12G STI cable for 4K video, so is ideal for recording music videos, live performances and livestreams.

Studio 1’s unique backdrop, size and design also makes it ideal for product launches, events and education. Most things, except the perimter stands, can be moved and many of our outboard effects are in rolling racks.
